Sermoneta was a town of significance sited close to important trading routes between Rome and Naples. The town still retains much of its medieval charm with its characteristic Loggia dei Mercanti or old Town Hall in the central square.
From the 13th to the 16th century it was home to a flourishing Jewish community with its own neighbourhood and Synagogue.
There is a maze of narrow, winding cobbled streets, alleyways and steep flights of stairs.
